Payroll Technicians are responsible for their own payroll allocation and client relationships but will work closely the wider team to deliver the service and to a high standard in line with agreed deadlines.


  • To accurately prepare a range of payrolls of varying complexity in accordance with the client’s deadlines
  • Advise clients if their payroll is not complying with current legislation
  • To accurately complete bank payments on behalf of the client, providing details to the bank by set deadlines
  • Process and complete HMRC returns such as full payment submissions and employment payment submissions
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation
  • To understand and keep up to date on the application of different types of pension schemes and how to calculate pension payments accurately and compliantly
  • To independently plan your own workload and proactively highlight where additional support is required
  • To assist in the continuous improvement of the department, including identifying and implementing opportunities for profitability via improved systems and increasing department portfolio of clients
  • To maintain the upkeep of payroll files to specified standards
  • To be a team player who proactively supports colleagues and the wider team


  • Experience with payroll compliance and legislation
  • Knowledge of the employment allowance, pensions, and Real Time Information (RTI) submissions
  • Managed your own end to end payroll process
  • Have a professional and proactive approach to client relationship management
  • Demonstrate a confident and articulate communication style
  • Be able to manage time effectively and be confident and instrumental in ad hoc projects
